Stainless Steel Guide
Built for harsh environments.
Finished for long-term performance.
At B&R Enclosures, we manufacture premium 316 stainless steel enclosures designed to perform in the toughest environments.
Through advanced manufacturing and ASSDA-aligned (Australian Stainless Steel Development Association) finishing techniques, our enclosures deliver exceptional corrosion resistance, durability and long-term performance.
Why 316 Stainless Steel?
Grade 316 stainless steel is widely recognised for its superior corrosion resistance,
particularly in environments exposed to chlorides such as coastal areas or high-salinity inland regions.
Compared to 304, 316 stainless steel is:

Pitting corrosion resistant

Marine & washdown ready

Suitable for food grade applications

Built for long service life
Common applications for 316 stainless steel
Trusted across coastal infrastructure, food processing, chemical and mining facilities, and architectural applications exposed to harsh environments.
Surface finish that performs
Surface finish plays a critical role in corrosion resistance.
B&R enclosures feature a No.4 finish (Ra ≤ 0.4 μm), finer than many industry-standard finishes. According to ASSDA, corrosion resistance can decrease significantly when surface roughness exceeds 0.4 μm.
What this means for you:
- Reduced salt build-up
- Improved resistance to tea staining and corrosion
- Easier cleaning and maintenance
- A more consistent, high-quality appearance

Manufactured for
longevity
We use ASSDA-aligned belt grinding and linishing processes to achieve a smooth, consistent surface finish that performs in real-world conditions.
This results in:
- Longer service life in coastal and high-chloride environments
- Improved performance in washdown and exposed applications
- A finish suitable for hygienic and food-grade environments
Every enclosure is engineered to maximise long-term performance, maintaining its appearance, corrosion resistance and structural integrity throughout its service life.
