Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year

December 15th, 2006

To all users of Ausrack ID, we would like to wish you and your colleagues and families, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our New Years resolution is to complete our work on the Ausrack ID room configuration system. This is another bit of substantial work but we should have it going by the middle of the year, and will again be totally free to use. We are also looking at some tweaks to the rack configuration system too.

Hope you have a great break and please keep on using Ausrack ID and let us know your experience by commenting below.

Apologies

June 7th, 2006

If you have been trying to use Ausrack ID in the last few days you may have noticed that it is taking a long time to load, if it is loading at all. This seems to be an issue with our SQL database which is being looked at by our hosting company at the moment. Hopefully this should be sorted out later on today.

Getting Quotes the Easy Way

April 28th, 2006

Have you been saving racks but have not been able to get a quote? We have now included a dialogue box that asks you when you make a save.

This feature has been requested by various people and certainly makes life a bit easier. Of coarse you don’t have to get a quote. You can still save in the normal way, then request a quote at a later date.

Major Update

April 24th, 2006

We have just updated the Ausrack ID site to include a new front end, and some additional functionality.

The most obvious change in the way Ausrack ID works is that it now includes an overlay to indicate where any items can be placed. This will help if you are not too sure where an item can be placed by giving you a visual indication of all the possibilities.

Have a look at the new version at www.ausrackid.com

BICSI Conference - Web 2.0 Paper from B&R

March 23rd, 2006

Okay, so perhaps not quite what you expected in an Ausrack ID updates stream, but we have included a section on Ausrack ID in here, and will with any luck and a suitable wireless connection, be able to demonstrate Ausrack ID at the BICSI conference on Monday 27th March at both 12 and 2pm.

If you are in Melbourne this day is a free to enter and there will be other papers presented by well respected companies such as Anixter, Corning, Siemon and Senko.

The venue is the Carlton Crest Hotel, so come along and say hello if you can.

New Version Available Now

March 8th, 2006

We have just posted a new version of Ausrack ID to fix up a few bugs, and add some nice new features. Additions include: -

Bug Fixes

  • Fixing a bug that seem to effect some systems which meant you had to click the Rack Configuration button twice to load up the program.
  • Prevent the installing of cable tray interfering with the placement of vertical power rails.
  • Reformated a few items so they fit correctly in the rack and with other items.

New Features

  • Loading a clad rack now bring the rack in with all cladding visible. A message tells you how to switch the visibilty off. This helps prevent users trying to place cladding and finding that they can’t.
  • Automatic adding of suitable shelves when screens, tower servers, keyboard shelves etc are dragged into the racks.
  • Cleared up the save/load area a bit so that getting a quote etc is more obvious (we have also added a tutorial on this).

Please let us know if you get any problems with any of the above, or anything else in Ausrack ID.

New Tutorials Added to Help Area

March 6th, 2006

We have just added 3 new tutorials in the help area. These are: -

  • Starting a new rack design - This shows how to start a new rack design if you already have a design loaded in the system.
  • Getting a quote - Do you want a quote from B&R on your racks? It is easy and quick in Ausrack ID. This tutorial shows you how.
  • Configuring an item - If we don’t have the specific router you want in our pre-drawn system, that is not a problem, just configure your own. This quick tutorial shows you how.

If there is anything you would like to see more about please contact Simon Griffiths at B&R.

Safari & Firefox for Mac Bug Worked Through

February 8th, 2006

We have had an issue with designs not loading from the save/load area in Safari and Firefox. This has now been resolved so you should be able to pick up any designs you have previously saved without any problems.

Want to add in items we haven’t included yet?

February 3rd, 2006

We have just updated the configurable part, so that you can name them as they are dragged into place.

This will allow you to add in parts that we haven’t included in our database, without having to wait for us to draw them!

BTW - If we haven’t got what you want, tell us about it and we will try to get them into our system as soon as possible.

More improvements to the print system

January 30th, 2006

We have just improved the print system again to include a notes field so you can add a description of the rack, or details of who you are, and what client/end user this is designed for.

Also added is an option to print out a shopping list for the rack and accessories. This is handy for ordering the items that B&R can’t quote such as servers, or for getting details of all parts so you can check out alternative suppliers (not that you would do that of coarse).
