Outdoor Enclosures

Meter Boxes, Industrial Enclosures and Cabinets

Outdoor enclosures are designed to keep equipment safe and dry no matter what the conditions. Most enclosures come with an IP rating which tells you roughly what conditions they are designed for.

Typical B&R enclosures IP ratings are: -

  • IP42 - Commonly referred to as ‘weatherproof’. This rating actually means that a probe of 1mm diameter cannot enter the enclosure and it is protected against vertically falling drops. Typically this rating refers to meter boxes and domestic outdoor enclosures.
  • IP55 - Allows the limited ingress of dust (no harmful deposit) and protection against jets of water. Typically this rating is an industrial or wet area enclosure.
  • IP65 - Total protection from the ingress of dust and protected against jets of water. Typically this is an industrial outdoor enclosure.
  • IP66 - Total protection from the ingress of dust and protected against strong jets of water. Typically this is an industrial outdoor enclosure for use on a plant

Industrial Enclosures - General Purpose

Typically used for all general purpose applications such as industrial automation and process control, these include plastic boxes of various types, steel and stainless steel enclosures.

Industrial Enclosures - Special Purpose

Usually designed for a specific application which varies from push buttons to explosion protected enclosures. If your electrical box has some special requirements, this might be a good place to start.

Industrial Enclosures - Multiple Application Enclosure Systems (MAES)

These are cabinets designed for a wide variety of applications so usually need some preconfiguration and have many accessories available.

Domestic & Commercial Enclosures

Meter boxes, group metering enclosures and commercial switchboards. If the electrical box you are looking for goes on a house or in a building, you will probably be able to find it here.
